A community newsletter feels like the right thing right now. And since I’m not (yet!) set up to send a newsletter by email, I’m writing it as a post to anyone who happens upon Gray Colored Glasses. If this is your first time here, welcome, and please stay. If you’re a “regular,” hello friend.

Parenting is HARD. With special needs, it’s EVEN HARDER. I want to bridge the gap. Tell the truth. Offer a fresh lens on this life we’re living. To reach families who are raising a child with special needs and those whose kids are perfectly typical, who wonder what it might be like and how they can offer support. Couldn’t we all benefit from sharing the emotional weight of parenting with honesty and vulnerability?

What is Gray Colored Glasses?

What is Gray Colored Glasses? I’m so glad you asked. In short, it’s a parenting blog. But it’s so much more than that.

Gray Colored Glasses takes its name from my son’s first pair of glasses and a critique of the “rose colored glasses” view of the world. It is my commitment as a mom of two kids, one with special needs, to reframing beauty in truth-telling, without discounting life’s very real challenges. It’s a blog for any parent–and really any person–seeking to live with deeper understanding, more awareness, and more compassion. Maybe I’m an optimist, but I think there are a lot of us out there.
